It’s again time to rejoice and enjoy…guess what? It's party time. Today I am 1 year older than yesterday…yes today is ‘Happy Birthday to me’.
I had always wished to be a kid once again…and today is one of those days when you really realize how and what it means when I say that out…real nostalgia…
I still remember those days when I was in Abu Dhabi, UAE, from the day I safely landed into this beautiful world (obviously crying…the reason for which am still on search) till my 8th std...with a gap of 4 yrs in between when we were in Pune. Whatever be, birthdays used to be real masti.
In Gulf countries, July-August is the time for summer vacation. So the re-opening day used to be my virtual Birthday at school. Little Manu used to be dressed up in newly purchased dress, 'colour dress' as it used to be called…the smell of which shouldn’t be over shadowed by scents. With a huge bag of chocolates, I used to go to school and tell my class teacher. “Teacher, teacher, Aug 12th was my happy birthday”. Then I was there in front of the whole class standing as if got punished :) Birthday rhymes used to be sung which kept hovering in your mind for a very long time (even today) and then each one was given those chocolates…

Parties used to be arranged at home itself…can’t say it was in a grand way, but not so bad also. It used to be superb get-togethers. It was a good opportunity for those staying away from their loved ones back home to get relief from their unhappiness and tension and cheer up. Friends and relatives used to be invited. Shhh…tel you something secret…nobody used to miss such functions. Reasons were many: Birthday cakes(mostly cholocate), good homely food (Not praising, but my Amma is one of the best chefs I have ever come across), then games (BINGO as the main one),etc etc. I am not able to express what it used to be then…but it was fun. Something that used to be awaited anxiously.

Hey I forgot the main part of the show… gifts, gifts and gifts…nobody was actually allowed to come for any party empty handed and hehe..I remember waiting at the entrance itself…my hands wide open and there used to come BIG BIG gifts…books, cars, games, and many more (some of them are still with me :)

Amma used to prepare real mouth watering payasams (well you can call it as kheer also). I feel thats the only part of the whole episode that is still prevalent even today :(. Here in India, you get payasams and sweets from temples too…the taste of which stays in your taste buds for the next whole year.
Nowadays who has time to celebrate getting 1 year older??? Yeah to an extend yes...A morning wish from Achan-Amma, small parties in office, cake cuttings, birthday bashes, a small gift and then treats..Get-togethers are To some extend it does bring youLnow reduced to just calls from loved ones. back to those old days. But as the saying goes…OLD is GOLD. Sho…woh tho purane zamane ki baath hai :(
I WISH TO BE A KID AGAIN :) No tension, no stay back in office, no responsibility…nothing :)

Anyways…life isn’t something to be stopped, looked back and cried upon…it’s all about the journey ahead. So let’s keep going.
Wishing myself a very happy rocking birthday!
